Here’s the thing, folks. There are 365 days to fill this year. (Sorry, Mom, I mean 366). And while I want to try to do something interesting each and every day, let’s be honest. They can’t all be dried larvae and tattoos. Some of them are going to be, well, boring.
Witness today. My new thing is going to see a movie. Yeah, I know. I’ve already gotten shit for it from the folks I work with (although they have yet to come up with an acceptable alternative). I’m gonna go see a movie called Everything Turns Green by 90s zeitgeist author Douglas Coupland. Now it’s an unreleased movie, so it’s a little bit exciting for me, but for the most part it’s boring for you.
But, you have a way to help, if you can. If you can think of any interesting things to try to do that don’t involve props or preplanning or anything - let me know. I actually need quite a bit of these “easy” things, because I work quite a bit and can’t always get out to try something different. Things I can do in my office or home.
Let is be noted: I have heard all of the joke answers already.
So? Have you got a bright idea? Let me know at suggestions[atallnewyear[dotcom, or post it in the comments.

EDIT: It has been suggested to me that while at the movie (which is being screened at a cool bar/screening room hybrid) I do the honorable thing and order up some sort of drink I have never had before. Suggestions area always welcome.

Well it’s officially on. It’s in black and white. There’s no turning back. I’ve got it in ink. And other such tiresome puns.
My first new thing: I got a tattoo. Specifically, one of the numbers “365″ to indicate the year I have ahead of me. This might seem like small potatoes to many people who have tattooed their torsos with their favorite disney characters and/or uncles. But I am of the frail, wussy variety - fearful of needles, or anything even rhyming with needles (Begone, wheedles!). Even in my wild, impetuous teens I swore to a friend I’d never get a tattoo.
But this is the sort of project that I could so easily abandon. And knowing my proclivity to take the easy way out, I have some built-in failsafes. One is this website, which will shower me with angry mail from friends and family if I even think of skipping a day. Another is the fact that now, my right shoulder bears the mark of the promise I’ve made to myself. To have an All New Year. And the party tonight is still to come…
Enjoy the video and my voluptuous man-tits.

I want to thank Gabe Abelson for sending in the first suggestions using the Fancy Official Suggestion Email, which is of course, suggestions [at allnewyear [dot com.
Gabe’s suggestions were:
Spend a day in a Tigger suit (inspired by Glen Humplik)
Spend a day at McDonald’s, playing in the kid’s gym with the plastic colored balls.
The first being a reference to something we made Glenn Humplik do on the old New Tom Green Show back when we worked together. The second being something Gabe’s insane mind made up. They’re on the list now. Got any bright ideas yourself? Email ‘em to me, please.

I think perhaps it was a great philosopher who said it. Or perhaps I saw it on a faded bumper sticker on a VW Microbus chugging its way down a freeway. But somebody, somewhere once said, “Try something new every day.” Literalist that I am, I’m going to try it.
Starting on March 5th, 2007 (my birthday) I am going to try one new thing every single day. Some will be small and easy - I have never had a Sloe Gin Fizz, for example. I look forward to that one. Others will be scary and difficult. I have never jumped from an airplane. I do not look forward to that one, and I may need a few Sloe Gin Fizzes in me to make it happen.
Regardless of the terror that clutches my bowels when I think of what’s in front of me, it will be an adventure. I invite you to come along, help me out, give me suggestions, and enjoy.
Embracing fear as tentatively as one would embrace a purfume-soaked aunt,

PS - I have a lot of ideas, and a lot of plans, but I can always use more, more, more. Please drop me a line at suggestions [at allnewyear [dot com to give me more ideas. Thanks!
